Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan, German Federal Minister of Education and Research, Presents Ubidyne a Grant to Improve Wireless Networks

ULM, GERMANY, December 9, 2010 – Ubidyne, the leader in Antenna Embedded Radio™ technology for the wireless industry, announced today that the company has received a €550,000 grant from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for research related to energy efficient high-speed radio frequency analog-digital converters based on delta-sigma modulators.

The grant, awarded through the KMU Innovation Program: Information and Communication Systems (IKT), enables small and medium size businesses in Germany to invest in advanced research topics, fostering the commercialization of innovative ideas and thus strengthening the leadership of technical companies in Germany. The KMU Innovation Program is part of the high-tech strategy of the German Federal Government.

Ubidyne and the University of Ulm (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Maurits Ortmanns, Institute of Microelectronics) will share the research grant. With this grant, Ubidyne will work closely with the University to develop innovative techniques to improve RF performance, reduce power consumption and slash mobile network costs. The company will apply its research findings to its next generation active antenna products. The project is slated to begin in January 2011 and conclude in June of 2012.

“I am pleased to present Ubidyne with this research grant in support of the company’s strong commitment to technical leadership and education in Germany,” said Minister Annette Schavan. “Ubidyne’s cooperation with the University of Ulm illustrates exactly how industry and education can complement one another.”

“We are honored to receive this prestigious grant and look forward to utilizing the funds to accelerate our research and development efforts in conjunction with the University of Ulm,” commented Michael Fränkle, CEO of Ubidyne.

Minister Annette Schavan, German Federal Minister of Education and Research, presented Ubidyne with the research grant at the company’s Ulm facility on 9 Dec 2010.
